Having had ideas about improving our rooftop terrace at 100 Kings Road, Reading Aparthotel for a while, coinciding with the Covid lockdown and staff moving in-house, we have taken the opportunity to create a small garden and vegetable patch in the heart of Reading. The roof terrace had previously been given a complete overhaul and decorated to provide a calming and enjoyable outside space for our guests, ready for the fantastic weather this summer. The addition of beautiful plants and crops added an entirely new dimension to the outdoor experience!
Gifts for guests
As crops began to flourish after the care and attention from our ‘green-fingered’ colleagues, we were able to share all the lovely fresh and organic produce with our guests. With our serviced apartments all featuring fully equipped kitchens, our guests love the ability to cook for themselves and what better ingredients than those grown where they are staying!
Guests were also encouraged to help themselves and pick fresh produce directly from our rooftop terrace, whilst gazing across the Reading landscape or enjoying the sun in a peaceful environment.
Flowers flourishing and providing for local insects
As well as creating a tranquil environment for guests, the flowers were a welcome addition to a number of insects. Our #HOFfamily were not the only ones working hard to maintain the garden…we had an abundance of bees join us over the summer as they benefited from the selection of flowers, undertaking pollination and fertilising the flowers for us!
