Green Park, Reading Station Opening In 2022

Reading’s Green Park station is due to complete and open to the public by 2023.

The final stages of the station work is now underway, with Reading Borough Council leading the construction and a commissioning period involving the train operating company and Network Rail. This will be the last phase prior to receiving authorisation to enter into service.

The improvements include a new footbridge, linking the two 150m platforms. The impressive footbridge, weighing 24-tonnes, was lifted over the railway by a mobile crane weighing 200 tonnes!

The project had suffered delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, however it is now progressing well and is expected to launch early this year.

The new train station is an exciting addition for Reading, providing a gateway between Green Park and Reading centre. This will likely reduce traffic on the A33, offering a sustainable alternative to driving and significantly enhancing transport links for commuters.

Travellers from Green Park will be able to reach Reading in six minutes, Basingstoke in 20, Paddington in 40 (via Reading), Canary Wharf in 60 (once the Crossrail is in place), and Southampton in 60 (via Basingstoke).

The new station is predicted to create up to 7,500 new jobs and 1,500 new homes for Reading, further enhancing its status as one of the most desirable places to work and live outside of London.

House of Fisher’s Managing Director, Trine Oestergaard Stafford, is excited on behalf of the company and the staff who mainly live and work in Reading, by the addition of Green Park station commenting “projects such as Green Park station demonstrate how Reading continues to strengthen its profile as the ‘go to’ area to live and work outside of London. The connectivity between Green Park to Reading centre being just six minutes and future addition of Crossrail, linking Reading, Heathrow and London, will no doubt lead to more and more international businesses relocating to Reading, creating more jobs and opportunities locally”.

House of Fisher operates two properties in Reading centre, our flagship 100 Kings Road aparthotel and City Wall House aparthotel. Our accommodation ranges from studios through to three bedroom apartments.
