As part of our commitment to the continuous training and development of our staff we are working closely with Key Training Ltd, a nation-wide training provider who deliver a wide range of training programmes.

Five members of our Company have recently enrolled and have taken the challenge to complete an adult apprenticeship while working full-time in order to develop their current skills set.

The government funded apprenticeship programmes are suitable for a range of employees from senior managers to support staff, regardless of age. During the programme day release is not required as all training is work based, and once the training is complete, learners will gain an NVQ qualification as well as other apprenticeship components such as personal learning and thinking skills and knowledge of Employment Rights and responsibilities.

Studying towards a Management level NVQ (national vocational qualification) is our Operations Manager Cristina and Reservations Supervisor Emily. Nandor from our Guest Services Team and Ed from the Reservations Team are both working towards an advanced Business Administration NVQ and Emma, our Housekeeping Administrator, is working towards an Intermediate level 2 team leading apprenticeship.

All five employees are enjoying their studies and the additional knowledge they are receiving through their training. Our Reservations Supervisor Emily says “It is challenging studying again after such a long spell, however I have the full support of my tutor and House of Fisher. As a new manager, I expect the management course to provide me with useful knowledge that is fundamental to manage my team effectively and support their development, whilst progressing me in my role. The course also teaches me the importance of supporting organisational objectives through a wide range of functions, such as managing team dynamics, delegation and capability building, planning and managing projects. It is exciting to be studying and learning again and I am looking forward to completing the course!”

The programme is a mix of self-study with written questions, observations and witness testimonials from their Manager. Day to day work can be used as evidence towards the capabilities of the employee.

Employee development and career opportunities are an important part of the House of Fisher culture. Through our team investment, many of the #HOFfamily have learnt new skills, improved performance and been rewarded with internal promotions. We enjoy supporting our employees with their apprenticeship programmes and look forward to enjoying the results of their developed skills and knowledge, which we know will benefit House of Fisher, the employees and our fantastic guests.
