After a long wait, the Elizabeth line is now due to open on Tuesday 24th May 2022, subject to final safety approvals. Initially, the line will operate between Paddington and Abbey Wood in London, from 6.30am to 11pm every day except Sundays, when it will be closed. By the Autumn, the line should open to serve all stations at an increased timetable, including Reading.
The Elizabeth line will transform travel across London and the South East by:
- Dramatically improving transport links
- Cutting journey times
- Providing additional capacity
- Transforming accessibility with spacious new stations and walk-through trains
Elizabeth Line frequency from Reading
When the full route opens, four Elizabeth line trains an hour (six an hour at peak times) will allow passengers to travel right through central London without having to change trains. Two Elizabeth line trains an hour (four an hour at peak times) will run between Maidenhead and Reading.
New Reading Crossrail Station and State of the art trains
The new crossrail station at Reading will include 200+ metre long platforms that are Step-free from platform to street.
The Elizabeth line features state of the art trains, with walk-through carriages, space for 1,500 people, air-conditioning and WiFi. Safety of travellers is supported by CCTV and live travel information for service updates.
The new line is environmentally efficient and helps fast, lower carbon travel from the South East to central London.
Special Jubilee Service
The Elizabeth line, named after Britain’s longest reigning monarch, is offering a special service on Sunday 5th June between 8am and 10pm to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There are several local events to mark the Jubilee celebration here.
